The Indian EXIM (Export-Import) policy for defence focuses on promoting and facilitating the export of domestically manufactured defence equipment and services, aiming for increased global competitiveness and self-reliance in the defence sector.
India’s defence import system is undergoing a significant transformation. While imports remain a necessary evil for specific needs and to acquire critical technologies, the overarching policy is firmly geared towards reliance on foreign sources and building a self-reliant, robust, and globally competitive domestic defence industrial base. The DDP, through its various policies and initiatives, is at the forefront of managing this delicate balance, ensuring national security while propelling India towards becoming a global defence manufacturing powerhouse.
The Open General Export License is a pre-approved license available for all defence exporters to use and allow the export of specified categories of controlled items to specified countries without needing individual licenses for each transaction.
